Lang Leav has been a favorite of mine since her first poetry book, Love & Misadventure. Since then, she’s published four books of poetry that revolve around the themes of love, loss, empowerment, & life. Her latest poetry collection is no different. Sea of Strangers by Lang Leav beautifully details the diverse emotions that are felt upon finding and losing love and losing and finding yourself in-between.
Like many modern day poets, a majority of Leav’s poetry is short conversational stanzas or compelling and straightforward one-liners. Though not all poetry readers are a fan of this style, I appreciate the directness and simplicity in her poems. It just goes to show how powerful a few words and sentences can be.
Reading a Lang Leav book is like hearing words of wisdom and inspiration from a close friend. She tells you a mix of things you don’t know and things you may subconsciously know but don’t want to hear.
As a writer and poet myself, I also love how a few of Lang Leav’s poems describe the writing process. Her words on writing are incredibly inspiring and insightful.
Whether you’ve never read Lang Leav before or you’ve always been a fan, her latest poetry book, Sea of Strangers is worth the read. Sea of Strangers consists of 224 pages of beautifully written poems on love, pain, realization, and wisdom. Lang Leav’s words are likely to stay with you long after you’ve read them on the page.
