Of Cats and Men by Sam Kalda isn’t just your typical book about cats. It’s a book about cats AND the people who love them. In a world full of dog loving men, it sometimes seems impossible to find someone who shares your love for cats. Though modern society has a stereotypical view of what cat lovers look like, cats are loved by more than just old and/or lonely women. This book is proof of it!
Of Cats and Men is a cute, intelligent, and amazingly illustrated exploration into cat loving fellas. Each profile of a cat loving man comes with a beautifully illustrated quote or portrait. There are roughly 30 detailed descriptions of artists, writers, inventors, and even a King who all had a soft spot for cats.
Among my favorite of cat men mentioned are Louis Wain, Nikola Tesla, Ernest Hemingway, William S. Burroughs, Charles Bukowski, and Freddie Mercury. Though I was already familiar with Ernest Hemingway and his cats, I loved reading his profile. The illustration and the way Hemingway’s love for cats was described was very heartwarming.
As a cat lover, Of Cats and Men has quickly become a favorite in my collection. It’s a fun and easy read perfect for the cat men in your life or the women who fear cat men don’t exist. Despite popular misconception, cat men do exist. They have existed all throughout history and are alive and well in today’s world. So, if you’re in need of reassurance or you would just like an interesting read about cats, this book is for you.
You can buy this interesting & beautifully illustrated book on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or wherever books are sold!
