Chasing Failure

Publisher : Thomas Nelson (June 22, 2021)

Hardcover : 224 pages

By blending personal stories, inspirational anecdotes, riveting psychology, get-up-and-go encouragement, and just plain practical step-by-step advice, Ryan Leak shows how chasing failure just may be the quickest way to success.

We all have something we’d love to do, but often our fear of failure outweighs the potential of our destiny. But what if we found out that failure could actually help us succeed? Through Ryan Leak’s journey of chasing the girl of his dreams to his NBA fantasy and his encounter with five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant, Chasing Failure helps us remove every excuse for not pursuing the life we want to live.

In this book Ryan also talks about the science behind why people are afraid to fail, mixing in real-life stories and adding practical steps to help us intentionally chase failure. As he says, “God promises to be with you always, even through the failure.” This book is for the dreamers who have been afraid to move–and even those who have been afraid to dream. Ultimately, Chasing Failure will help us build confidence in what God has called us to do. As a motivational speaker, whether addressing people in corporations, churches, or youth events, Ryan has a message of hope: failure is right around the corner, so be brave enough to chase it! The good life is on the other side.

My Thoughts:

Chasing Failure by Ryan Leak is a self-help/motivational book that talks about embracing failure. Though it’s natural to always want to succeed, Ryan Leak aims to flip the script on how we view failure. In his new book, he gives readers a new and improved perspective on failure.

Through his words of wisdom, encouragement, and everyday practical advice, Ryan helps us see failure as our best teacher. Throughout his book, he also illustrates how we should revaluate our goals, know when to ditch them, and learn how to put them into action.

Chasing Failure is an emotionally intelligent book that has kickstarted my desire to change my life. One of the best things about his advice is that it’s realistic and easy for anyone to follow. As someone who often doesn’t know where to begin, I really appreciated his advice on how to create an action plan. He encourages you to start now by starting small. Make daily achievable to-do lists and strive for those small wins every day. Don’t automatically attempt to chase after the big wins. Go for the small wins first because the small wins often lead to the big wins. As Ryan says, “Daily goals are much more practical and measurable than yearly goals.” This simple change of thinking can help us achieve much more than when we try to aim too high.

I thoroughly enjoyed Chasing Failure. After reading it, I feel wiser, more determined, and more prepared. Anyone who knows me personally knows how lost I’ve felt in life and my career, but I wholeheartedly feel a little less lost after reading Ryan Leak’s words.

Now if you will excuse me, I’m going to go write myself a practical and achievable to-do list. And, you should too! If you’re reading this and are feeling stuck, lost, or fearful, maybe reading Chasing Failure should be put at the top of your to-do list.
