It’s February, and we’re in that awkward place where the weather hasn’t quite decided what season it is yet. While we all might be dreaming of blooming flowers and sunny days, the reality is that we still have some cold and rainy weather to deal with first. But don’t let the rain get you down, rainy days can actually be a great opportunity to relax and unwind and spend a bit of time to yourself, without feeling FOMO that you’re missing out on anything (which can often happen when the sun is shining!) Here are 5 simple and cozy ways to spend a rainy day.

1. Curl Up with a Good Book

Many of us claim to enjoy reading, but when was the last time you actually picked up a book? Put your phone down and step away from doomscrolling and invest your time into something more positive and worthwhile instead. Books are amazing, they can make you laugh, make you cry and teach you new things. A cold dreary day is the perfect opportunity to give reading a chance. Best of all you dont even need to head out to a bookshop,  you can dust off your old Kindle and borrow books through Libby or download whatever looks good to you from the Kindle store.

2. Get Acquainted With Netflix

If you aren’t in the mood for reading, rainy days are perfect for indulging in some tv. Pick out a movie you’ve been wanting to see or start a new tv series and kick your feet up and relax. Some shows are unfortunately limited to certain areas, but if you use a VPN you can access the entire library. For example, you can get Netflix US in Canada if there’s something from the states you’ve been wanting to see but is currently not available in your region.

3. Get Creative

Rainy days can inspire creativity. Take out your art supplies and spend some time drawing, painting or crafting. You could also get creative in the kitchen. There’s nothing like the smell of something delicious baking in the oven to brighten up a rainy day. Search for a new recipe online or dust off an old family favorite. Whether you’re craving cookies, soup, or a hearty casserole, spending time in the kitchen can be both relaxing and rewarding. Plus, you get to enjoy a tasty treat at the end!

4. Take A Nap

Many of us spend much of our lives sleep deprived. When life gets busy with work, family and social commitments, good restful sleep can sometimes be hard to come by. So if you ever get the golden opportunity to catch up, take it! Naps are great for your health and we don’t get nearly enough of them in adulthood. If you’re worried about messing up your sleep schedule you can always set an alarm. A short nap shouldn’t interfere too much. But even if it does, I bet it was worth it!

5. Pamper Yourself

Rainy days really set the mood for a luxurious self-care day. A rainy day is the perfect time to wash all your bedding, take a long warm bath, do a seven step skincare routine, deep condition your hair, and exfoliate your body. There’s just something about rainy weather that feels like the prime opportunity to fully pamper yourself.

Rainy days might not always be what we hope for, but they are still enjoyable in their own way.  So the next time the weather forecast calls for rain, embrace it as an opportunity to relax, recharge, and enjoy some much-needed downtime. The sun will shine again another day, and you may just find yourself longing for a calm and quiet rainy day.
