The Bloated Belly Whisperer is a medical book written by digestive and nutrition expert, Tamara Duker Freuman. Unlike some doctors who are eager to prescribe supplements, surgery, or medication, Tamara prefers to take a more natural approach first.
As explained in the book, there are a number of reasons for digestive problems such as bloating. Freuman says herself, “Bloating is a symptom of something else, not a medical condition unto itself.” Therefore, you can’t treat bloating without first discovering the problem.
The Bloated Belly Whisperer describes the ten most common medical causes of bloating. It even includes a quiz that’s designed to help you identify what may be causing your bloating. The book is wisely divided into chapters for each potential bloating cause.
After identifying the digestive problem, Freuman’s treatment plan focuses on a change of diet and lifestyle habits. She says, “In some cases, dietary change alone can completely control bloating. In other cases, medical therapy may be called for in addition to diet.” While medical intervention may also be necessary, I love that this book is full of healthy recipes. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when a doctor suggests a diet change. So, it’s helpful to have a book to reference.
Whether you suffer from severe or mild bloating, this book is worth the read. As Freuman says, “Every unhappy belly is unhappy in its own way”. And it’s time to turn our unhappy bellies into happy ones!
